Timber generally needs periodic cleaning and coating if you want to preserve a particular appearance. Composite avoids oiling or staining in many cases but is not maintenance-free; dirt, mould and spills still need cleaning.
Heat and sunlight
Board colour and composition affect surface temperature. Darker products can become very warm in direct Sydney sun. Ask for samples and expose them to the actual conditions where possible.
